Conduct of Members

Information about the Members’ Code of Conduct.

The Localism Act

In accordance with the Localism Act 2011 councils are responsible for promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct by their members. All councils, including town and parish councils, are required to adopt their own Code of Conduct. The Town and Parish Councils in North Lincolnshire have adopted the Council’s Code of Conduct.

The Code of Conduct

All councils have had to adopt a Code of Conduct.  All councillors must sign up to it. The Code sets out seven general principles:

  • selflessness
  • integrity
  • objectivity
  • accountability
  • openness
  • honesty
  • leadership

North Lincolnshire Council’s Code of Conduct  sets out the conduct expected of members and the types of interest that they need to declare at meetings and in their register of interests. It reflects the provisions of the Localism Act 2011.

We have published ‘Arrangements‘ which set out how a complaint that a member may have breached the Code of Conduct will be handled.
