North Lincolnshire Council has this month, launched a new healthy lifestyle service, known as North Lincolnshire Healthy Lifestyle Service.
The service brings together existing lifestyle support services in one place, making it easier for local people to access help and support for a range of issues at once.
Initially based at Riddings Youth Centre in Scunthorpe, it will move to North Lincolnshire Central Library in the town centre in 2018 as part of a one-stop shop approach with wider services.
It is open from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am to 12pm on Saturdays. People will also be able to access the service in a range of local settings such as at local leisure centres, wellbeing hubs, children’s centres and some GP practices.
A team of friendly and knowledgeable Healthy Lifestyle Facilitators will support groups of people wanting to focus on the following:
- Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight
- Stopping smoking
- Reducing alcohol use
- Being more physically active
- Increasing wellbeing, including mental and emotional health
- Training around health and wellbeing for those people who are interested in becoming trained as health champions
- Signposting to wider local supporting services
A programme of six to 12 sessions will be on offer, at local convenient venues, and follow-up support will be available to participants once they have completed the programme.
One-to-one support will be offered in some cases. People can refer themselves to the Healthy Lifestyle Service team, or they can be referred by another agency or organisation that they are receiving support from.
Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for Adults and Health at North Lincolnshire Council said,
“North Lincolnshire Healthy Lifestyle Service is a fantastic scheme, bringing together the health support services that people need in a one-stop shop approach.
“Our Health Improvement Service already provides successful support across multiple teams and locations in North Lincolnshire, but by bringing them all together we will be able to provide a more streamlined approach for a range of issues at once, whilst also providing better value for taxpayers’ money.
“North Lincolnshire Healthy Lifestyle Service launched at Riddings Youth Centre on 4 September. If you or someone you know could benefit from the help of our fantastic team, please call 01724 298212 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.”
