North Lincolnshire Council’s brand new Winterton centre – containing a library, local link and gym – is set to open on 28 March 2017 at 1pm.
The new £1.2m purpose-built centre will open on West Street in the town, next to Winterton Rangers Football Club. To the rear of the new building, the council has also invested in providing a brand new skate park.
The 15-station gym with life fitness equipment is a new addition for Winterton. Existing gym members will be able to use the new gym as part of their membership and new users can sign up at any of our leisure centres.
The modern new library is almost double the size of the existing library and will be home to a children’s storywall – complete with reading nook – to engage young readers. Wi-fi will be available throughout the building.
As part of the building works, which started in September last year, we have also made improvements to the site entrance to make sure all visitors can access the new facility safely.
The new Winterton Library, Local Link and gym will be open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1pm to 8pm; on Wednesdays and Fridays from 11am to 8pm; and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 2pm.
It is thought to be the only public library in the Humber region to open on Sundays and will be open 20 hours more per week than the town's current library.
Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for Adult Services at North Lincolnshire Council, said:
“This new centre brings together the library and link services with a brand new gym and skate park and is a fantastic opportunity for Winterton. The new development will help promote health and wellbeing while also providing a space for recreation for local children and young people.
“The £1.2m investment in the town continues our commitment to reducing the barriers people face to exercise. Relocating the library and local link into this new purpose built centre will also ensure that our services are available when our residents want them.”
The current Winterton Library and Local Link will close at 5pm on Wednesday 15 March 2017 so the service can be moved to the new site. Any books due during this time will be automatically renewed. You can find your nearest alternative library online.
