A new pre-school facility at John Harrison CE Primary School in Barrow has been built to meet the increasing demand for childcare places – thanks to a £385,000 investment.
North Lincolnshire Council successfully secured funding from the Department for Education for the investment in early years places. The council worked in partnership with the pre-school to match fund the grant to build the new pre-school.
The new purpose built secure building on the primary school site features an indoor learning space and staff areas.
Children have access to a secure outdoor area, which will be developed further.
The pre-school has relocated from Barrow Village Hall to accommodate those wishing to take up the 30 hours free childcare for working parents.
Cllr Neil Poole, cabinet member for Investment, Assets and Employment, said:
“This is a major investment in early year’s education to provide more places for working parents to access the 30 hours of free childcare. The pre-school used to be based at Barrow Village Hall but this was no longer fit for purpose.
“The new purpose built pre-school on John Harrison CE Primary School site will provide a fantastic space for children to learn and develop.”
