Leader opens village Post Office after refurbishment

6 July 2018

Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, Cllr Rob Waltham, officially reopened the Post Office in Gunness today (Friday 6 July) following a refurbishment by new owners.

Tariq Mahmood and his wife Sofhuron Shah took over the shop and Post Office in Gunness, North Lincolnshire in July last year. The couple were given help from the Post Office community fund to refurbish the Post Office and refit the shop.

Tariq said:

“When we took over the Post Office it was very outdated but now it is refurbished we are very pleased.

“We moved to Gunness from Bradford and the people in the village have been so welcoming and pleasant to us.”

The Post Office is on Station Road in the village and offers postal services, travel insurance, vehicle taxing, Euros, National Express ticketing and other services.

Cllr Rob Waltham said:

“Post Offices are such vital community assets, especially in rural areas where residents may struggle to access such services otherwise. In a time when people are using Post Offices less, it’s fantastic to see the branch in Gunness thriving with Tariq and Sofhuron breathing new life into it.”
