11 September 2017
North Lincolnshire Council’s Festival of Skills and Opportunities is back for 2017 and is being kick started with the Open Doors event on Thursday 14 September between 1pm and 6pm at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe.
The Open Doors Event is open to anyone looking for work, looking for a change in direction or just simply wants to see what is on offer.
Over 50 employers with job opportunities will be at The Baths Hall, offering job opportunities, career advice, guidance and support including HM Forces Recruitment Teams, Regular and Reservists, KFC, Ongo, Avon, Staffline, North Lindsey College and Driver Hire.
Other employers, Morrisons, McDonalds, Q Hotels and British Steel, will all be presenting on the day. So come and find out what it is like to work in retail, hospitality, manufacturing and engineering.
There will also be a dedicated specialist area of support for H M Forces, Veterans and their families from support charities and organisations such as British Legion and SSAFA.
Are your interview skills a bit rusty or do you need some advice on being interviewed? You will be able to brush up on your skills by having a mock interview with Tesco, the UK’s largest retailer. These are taking place between 1.30pm and 4pm. You can book your place on the day.
Bring your CV with you on the day and get it checked. Get advice on what employers look for on a CV and what details you should include.
For more details about the event or if you are an employer that would like to attend email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01724 297032.
Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:
“Now in its third year, the Festival of Skills and Opportunities is a month-long series of events aimed at promoting career prospects and training opportunities to people across North Lincolnshire. Last year we saw over 3,500 people attend the different events. This year we are positive it will be just as successful – if not more.
“The Open Doors event kicks off this year’s festival by offering a free event for people to come and meet employers with job opportunities, career advice, guidance and support.
“Last year the Open Doors event was a great success, with people leaving the Baths Hall with a job and I recommend this event to anyone who is searching for work, second jobs, reskilling or wanting to change their career.”
Anne Brewster Employer and Partnership Manager for Jobcentre Plus said:
“We are delighted to be working in partnership with North Lincolnshire Council on Open Doors once again. I hope people will seize the chance to come and meet key employers in the area and find out what employment opportunities and support is available to them locally.”
Over 3,500 people attended the 2016 Festival of Skills and Opportunities (FOSO) to discover what careers were available to them and for careers support.
This year’s Festival of Skills and Opportunities will start on Thursday 14 September 2017 and run until the end of October. Throughout this time a range of events will be held to provide careers and advice, as well as job opportunities.
