Council cleans up at awards ceremony

12 February 2018

The Great British Spring Clean Award commends activity that took place between 3 and 5 March 2017. It recognises promotion, engagement and delivery of The Great British Spring Clean campaign.

North Lincolnshire Council takes dealing with litter seriously and encourages volunteers and community groups to get involved in local litter picking events. In addition to the Great British Spring Clean, the council organises four additional community litter-picking events each year.

Keep Britain Tidy, said:

“North Lincolnshire Council won the Great British Spring Clean Award for supporting over 300 Litter Heroes to clean up for the campaign, and to sustain the initiative in the long term.”

Cllr Richard Hannigan, cabinet member for Safer, Greener and Cleaner Places, said:

“This is fantastic news. Well done to all involved in making the last year’s Great British Spring Clean campaign the huge success it was.

“Winning the award wouldn’t have been possible without the support from local communities so I’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all the volunteers who took part in the big clean up last year.

“We are once again taking part in The Great British Spring Clean this year and are encouraging even more people to step forward and take part.”

Last year’s Great British Spring Clean saw 300 volunteers rally together to collect over 700 bags of rubbish over the clean-up weekend and throughout March 2017.

This year, the clean-up weekend is taking place from 2 to 4 March 2018 and ‘litter heroes’ are being called on to take part.

Local people, community groups, charities, sports clubs, businesses and town and parish councils in North Lincolnshire are encouraged to join in.

If you would like to get involved in the big clean up, get in touch with the council on 01724 297775 or email neighbourhoodservices@northlincs.gov.uk. The council can offer support including providing litter picking equipment and removing the rubbish you collect.

To take part in the Great British Spring Clean, you can register online where you can download the guide, get advice and tips.
