Ninety firms interested in supplying potential £80m solar investment

14 September 2018

Ninety local businesses came along to our ‘Buy Local’ networking event in Scunthorpe on 12 September to find out how they could benefit from a potential £80m solar farm investment on the outskirts of the town.

INRG Solar are looking for local businesses to supply materials and services for a potential major new solar energy development called Little Crow Solar Park.

Subject to planning approval, the planned £80m investment could create 150 jobs during the construction of a new solar farm on private land near Santon on the outskirts of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire.

The ‘Buy Local’ event was a chance for INRG Solar to build their local supply chain for the potential new development. If you couldn’t make it to the event but would like to express an interest in supplying services, visit the Invest in North Lincolnshire website.

Contracts are expected to start in 2019, subject to planning approval.

Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“This development from INRG Solar would be a major investment in North Lincolnshire and we’re pleased to be able to help local businesses network and discover how they can benefit if the plans go ahead.

“It is good to see interest so far from businesses of all sizes and self-employed professionals, who will be able to apply for full or sub-contracts as part of the scheme. There’s still time to express an interest if you haven’t already.”

Ian Gannon, Director of INRG Solar, said:

“We at INRG Solar want to support the local business community and this is the first stage in gathering a database of interested parties to ensure they are contacted in advance of the various stages of the development and its ongoing maintenance.”

Once a planning application is received for the site, it will be subject to usual planning procedures.
