A1077 closed from 9am today until Sunday due to flood protection work

12 January 2017

Due to the expected bad weather and high tides this week, part of the A1077 from Winterton to the B1204 junction will be closed from 9am Thursday 12 January. This is to allow the Environment Agency (EA) to put in place temporary steel flood defences as a precautionary measure. The road is likely to remain closed until Sunday.

The EA is issuing flood alerts and warnings due to the expected bad weather on Friday when gale or severe gale force northerly winds are expected to generate large waves along the east coast, which could result in coastal flooding across Lincolnshire.

A signed diversion route will be in place. Access will be maintained for local residents, businesses and emergency services.
Concerned residents are advised to check the website  in the coming days. People can also sign up for free flood warnings on their website or call Floodline on 0845 988 1188.

Cllr Rob Waltham, deputy leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“We’ve been asked to close the road to enable the workmen to safely put the temporary flood defences in place in South Ferriby to help protect residents from potential flooding.

“We’re pleased to see this proactive approach in the community to help protect residents, particularly given what happened in 2013.

“This is a precautionary measure and the EA and the council will continue to monitor the weather.”
