Street Cleaning Programme

Street Cleaning Programme

We are responsible for keeping the area clean and free of litter.

How often are roads cleaned?

We clean town centres continuously and the roads are cleaned once every 8 to 12 weeks. If you feel there is an area that needs extra service, please let us know and we will check it out.

Please report excessive litter:

Report littering

Please note that we are unable to use mechanical sweepers on block paved areas. This is because the blocks can be sucked into the machines which causes damage to the sweeper and pavements. If you think a block paved area needs sweeping, please let us know to request a manual sweeper.

Syringes and needles

We will clear away syringes or needles within one day of being reported.

Please report syringes and needles using the online form:

Dog fouling

In most public places it is an offence for anyone in charge of a dog to fail to clean up after it when it fouls. The offence carries a maximum fine of £1,000.

Dog mess will be cleared from hard surfaces only, and we aim to remove it within five working days from being reported.

Please report incidences of dog fouling:

Litter bins and dog waste bins

We will:

  • empty all litter bins and dog waste bins at least once a week;

  • respond to reports of overflowing bins within five working days;

  • assess reports of damaged bins or bins that need replacing within five working days.

Please report overflowing or damaged dog or litter bins using the online form:

Grass cutting and weeds

We will undertake regular cuts on grass verges, dependant on grass growth and weather conditions. If you notice a grass verge that is not cut regularly or is overgrown, please report it and we will respond within 28 days.

We operate a weed maintenance programme in May and October every year, weather permitting. This may involve spraying.

Please report grass verges that are not cut regularly and incidences of excessive weeds using the online form:

Dead animal removal

We will collect dead animals from public roads only, within two days of being reported.

All dead animals - whether domestic or wild - will be disposed of. However, we keep a descriptive log for collected cats and dogs to allow for their identification and they are stored in appropriate conditions for a minimum period of one week, should the owner be traced and wishes to collect. Please contact Neighbourhood Services on neighbourhoodservices@northlincs.gov.uk.

Please report dead animals that need removing using the online form:
