Bear's Reading Adventure
After more than four years of encouraging under-fives to use libraries and share stories, Baby Bookstart Bear is embarking on a new reading adventure. From Easter 2016, pre-school children will be offered a colourful story book which can be completed with stickers collected during library visits.
Bear's Reading Adventure continues to encourage families to visit libraries and to read together every day. The new offer reinforces the message that reading can take place anytime, anywhere, and has life-changing impact.
Ask at your local library if your child is under the age of five and would like to take part.
This is a pilot scheme run by BookTrust, alongside the two national packs gifted to babies and toddlers as detailed below.
Bookstart is a national programme for every baby in the UK. Your child will receive two free Bookstart packs:
- When your baby is between six and twelve weeks your health visitor will give them their Baby Pack
- When your child is three years old their nursery will give them their Treasure Pack
If your child does not get one of their packs please contact your local library.
If you are a nursery or pre-school and want to find out how to get Treasure bags for your children please contact us.
Time to Read
Time to Read is the new campaign from Booktrust that encourages parents of primary school aged children (4-11) to keep reading with their children, even when they've learned to read. As part of the campaign every reception aged child will receive a free book pack.
The pack contains a book along with guidance for parents and carers on enjoying shared reading. In 2016 every child starting school will receive a copy of Kitchen Disco in their pack.
Packs are delivered to schools during the autumn term each year.
If you are the parent of a reception class aged child who does not attend school please contact us to find out how to get your child's pack.
The Imagination Library is open to children aged from birth to four years 10 months, who live in North Lincolnshire. Each month a carefully selected book will be posted to your child. The book is totally free. Your child will get a book every month until they are five years old.
