Computers in the library

Computers: the People's Network

Computers are available for library members to use in all of our static libraries.  You must be a member of North Lincolnshire libraries to use a library computer. Anyone can join the library completely free of charge, even if they live outside of the area or outside of the UK. Access is free for 30 minutes, and costs 55 pence per additional 30 minute session.

We ask all users of this service to abide by our Acceptable use of the Internet Policy  [PDF, 43Kb].

You will usually need your library card number and four digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) to use the computers in our libraries.  If you do not know your card number or PIN, you can be issued it at your local library on production of one form of address identification. Customers under the age of 16 will usually be asked some security questions. They will also need prior consent from a suitable guarantor to access the internet in our libraries.

Please note that we cannot tell you your PIN over the phone, although we can email it to you, if the email address you give us matches the one we have on our system.

Printing

You can print from library computers, although we are unable to offer wireless printing using our Wi-Fi. For printing costs please see our Library Charges page.

Tablets, laptops and smartphones

You are very welcome to use your tablet, laptop or smartphone in any North Lincolnshire library.  In some libraries you might also be able to charge your device while you are using it, by plugging it in to one of our power points, subject to availability.  However, please note that we do reserve the right to ask customers not to do this if it constitutes a hazard, such as blocking access to library shelves or computers, or trailing leads.

Wi-Fi

We also currently offer Wi-Fi access at all libraries.

To access the council's Wi-Fi network, you will need to complete a short registration process to set up a guest account. Each guest account lasts six months.

To avoid disrupting other library users please make sure that any sound effects are switched off.

iPlayer

The law changed on 1 September 2016. You must be covered by a TV Licence to download or watch BBC programmes on iPlayer, whether live, catch up or on demand. This applies to any device and provider you use.

You cannot use any library computer to download or watch iPlayer as libraries do not have TV licences. You can download or watch iPlayer on your own mobile device using library WiFi, so long as you are using your device's battery and are not plugged in to our mains power. For more details please go to TV Licensing or refer to our table.
