Public Health in North Lincolnshire

Public health in North Lincolnshire

Public health is about helping people to stay healthy and avoid getting ill. Responsibility for many public health functions has now passed to North Lincolnshire Council. The council now has a new statutory duty to take steps to improve the health and well being of residents in North Lincolnshire.  This includes the mandatory responsibility of:

  • Weighing and measuring children
  • Providing health checks for eligible people
  • Providing sexual health services
  • Providing a public health advice service
  • Protecting the health of the local population

Health and Wellbeing Board

The Health and Wellbeing Board (HWB) is a statutory committee of the council where key leaders from the health and social care system work together to improve the health and well being of the local population and reduce health inequalities. The statutory functions of the HWB are to prepare and publish a North Lincolnshire Strategic Assessment, prepare and publish a Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy and to encourage and promote integrated working and joint commissioning across agencies. Read the Health and Wellbeing Boards - a practical guide [PDF, 509Kb] document for more information.

North Lincolnshire Strategic Assessment

The North Lincolnshire Strategic Assessment is a process through which North Lincolnshire Council services (both the People and Places directorates) work together with health services (North Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group) to assess the health and social needs of the North Lincolnshire population and determine priorities for commissioning services.

If you want to know where to find the Strategic Assessment and how to use it, a short video tutorial is available to guide you through the site.

The North Lincolnshire Strategic Assessment evidence base, and associated documents and data, are maintained on the Health and Wellbeing Evidence page and the North Lincolnshire Data Observatory.

Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy (JHWS)

The focus of this high level strategy is on what partners can do better together to add value and identify opportunities for working together differently, whilst delivering value for money in order to ensure that North Lincolnshire is a healthy place to live where everyone enjoys improved wellbeing and where inequalities are significantly reduced.

Annual public health report

All Directors of Public Health are required to produce an annual public health report which summarises the current health of the local community. These reports provide a valuable source of information about health needs over time. They highlight where progress has been made over the previous 12 months as well as any local issues which need to be addressed.

The latest Annual Public Health Report is now available on the North Lincolnshire Strategic Assessment website

Reports from previous years are also available through the North Lincolnshire Data Observatory.
