Fair Trading

Trading Standards - fair trading

The Fair Trading Team enforce a range of legislation that cover a number of trading practices including:

The Motor Trade

We look at vehicle descriptions and roadworthiness.

Doorstep callers

We advise traders and consumers on their cancellation rights and obligations for goods or services purchased in the home.

Itinerant traders (travellers) and rogue traders

We aim to respond to calls of doorstep crime such as cold calling by tradesmen who offer to start building or maintenance work immediately.

Counterfeiting

Protecting consumers and businesses from illegal copying and breaches of trade marks.

E-crime

Ensuring that online sellers are trading legally and fairly.

Estate agents

Protecting consumers from misleading property descriptions.

Consumer credit

We aim to protect consumers from loan sharks via our partners in the Illegal Money Lending Team.

Hallmarking

We ensure that jewellery is correctly identified and marked.

Video recordings

We ensure that films and games sold carry an appropriate age related classification.

Intervention on civil issues

We intervene in consumer complaints that are referred to us by the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline.

For businesses

We operate an intelligence led and risk based inspection programme for all businesses in North Lincolnshire.

We will assist local businesses to comply with their obligations in relation to any trading standards matter. Please contact us if you require any advice or help.
