Council Tax payments and balances

Pay your Council Tax

We offer a range of easy and convenient ways to pay your council tax.

Pay by Direct Debit

Direct Debit ensures regular payments are made on your choice of 1st, 8th, 15th or 22nd day of the month. This is our preferred payment method.

Setting up a Direct Debit is easy and you are protected by the Direct Debit guarantee.

You can set up a Direct Debit over the telephone. If you are the bank account holder and the bill you want to pay is in your name, telephone us on 0300 3030164. Make sure you have your council Tax Account Reference number (found on your bill) and your bank account details to hand.

If you prefer, you can print out and complete a Direct Debit instruction [PDF, 156Kb] and return it to the address on the form.

Pay online

You can pay your council tax online with our easy and secure payment facility.

Pay council tax

You can make a payment online, using a debit or credit card using the ‘pay Council Tax’ link above.  You will need to have your Council Tax Account Reference (found on your bill) and your card details to hand.

Please note that the balance shown will be the total balance on the Account Reference Number and not necessarily the instalment that is due.  You should make sure you have overtyped the balance with your chosen payment amount, before submitting your payment to us. This balance is updated each night to reflect payments or account changes.

Rather than paying online each month you can set up a regular Direct Debit payment.

Pay by telephone

Call 0300 3031014 to pay during opening hours.

You can pay over the telephone using a debit or credit card. You will need your Account Reference number and card details to hand.

Pay by standing order

You must arrange this with your own bank.

  • Ensure that only your Account Reference number is quoted (as shown on your bill)
  • The council's bank account number is 83416593
  • The council's sort code is 20-76-30 (Barclays Bank)

Pay in person

Pay at the Post Office or a Paypoint.

Take your bill to a post office or a shop that accepts paypoint payments. They will take the payment. A full list of these can be found at Allpay. They will not be able to accept payment without your bill.

Please keep your receipts when using this pay method in case there is a query later in the financial year.

You will need your barcoded bill and your payment. If you need a replacement barcoded bill please call us on 0300 3030164.
