What can I do if I disagree with my bill?

What can I do if I disagree with my bill?

If we decide that you must pay Council Tax on your property and you have not qualified for an exemption and you disagree, you should write to us stating why you disagree. We have two months to send you an answer. If you still disagree with our decision, or if we did not give you an answer within the two months, we will give you details on how to appeal to a valuation tribunal.

You should continue to pay your original bill during your appeal.

How will you know when to apply for a discount?

When we send out a Council Tax bill, we will have decided whether we think a discount applies, based on the information we have at that time.

If there is no discount and you think you should get one, you should write to us explaining why. We will tell you what proof you need to give us to support a claim.

We will then reassess your claim and if we refuse your request, you can then appeal. You should write to us stating why you disagree. We have two months to send you an answer.

You should continue to pay your Council Tax bill while your appeal is going on.

What if I disagree with your decision on who is legally responsible for paying Council Tax?

If you disagree with our decision about who is responsible for paying Council Tax you should write to us explaining why. After reviewing your letter we will write to tell you of the outcome.

If you are unhappy with our decision you can hand in a formal objection. We have two months to reply to you. If you still disagree with us, or we have not given you an answer within the two months, we will give you details on how to appeal to an independent valuation tribunal.

You should continue to pay your original bill until you know the result of your appeal.
